Frankincense (from Old High German wîhrouch, holy incense', to wîhen, sanctify, consecrate'), also olibanum, is the air-dried gum resin that is obtained from the frankincense tree. It is used both cultically as incense and medicinally, i.e. h. used for therapeutic purposes. Hippocrates and other Greco-Roman doctors already used incense. Nothing was known about the mechanisms of action, but the practical successes were numerous enough that the expensive substance was still used as medicine in the Middle Ages, including by Hildegard von Bingen. Frankincense essential oil is primarily used in the cosmetic industry for skin care products. This noble essence is of course also a representative of the Bible oils.
Especially in times of colds, frankincense is a much-praised remedy for diffuse aroma. Due to its special properties, frankincense essential oil can also be found in many skin care products.
Frankincense essential oil can develop its strengths particularly in the psychological/emotional area. It supports us in meditation, it allows us to delve deeply into our spirituality, opens our mind and soul and brings everything into balance. The oil is highly uplifting and emotionally stimulating; it conveys courage, joy of life and helps with clear thinking and better concentration. Frankincense is the first choice for all stress symptoms, mental exhaustion, nervous tension, fears and worries.
