What is a hydrosol?

Hydrosols are highly concentrated plant waters that are obtained through gentle steam distillation of the flowers, leaves, twigs, buds or roots of the respective plant. This process removes the water-soluble plant ingredients. Our organic hydrosols therefore have a similar effect to essential oils, but are milder, more tolerable and more versatile.

Worth knowing:

To illustrate: With 75ml hydrosol you would need 40 infused tea bags to achieve the same concentration of ingredients. One liter of hydrosol corresponds to one kilogram of plant material. The many water-soluble plant ingredients also contain essential oils. Hydrosols have similar properties to essential oils, but are milder, more tolerable and more versatile. They are used, among other things, to flavor food, as a room fragrance, for further processing in cosmetics, in aroma practice, and in the veterinary sector.

Production:

To distill, we place the hand-picked plant material on a sieve with hot water underneath. The steam causes the plant material to swell and the water-soluble substances are released. These rise to the top and are then cooled and collected in a sterile container.
